TAP presents the 2024 Graduate Student Research Prize

On February 17, 2025, Dr. Yangyang Cai, Postdoc Fellow at Tsung-Dao Lee Institute Shanghai Jiao Tong Universitywas presented the TAP 2024 Graduate Student Research Prize plaque, and $1,000, awarded for his exemplary research paper, “Ultra-relativistic Charged Particles in Aristotelian Equilibrium.”

Yangyang Cai received his Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Arizona in 2023 studying theoretical astrophysics.  His advisor was Dr. Sam Gralla.  He received his bachelor’s degree at Nankai University in China, studying physics. During his PhD. studies, he mainly focused on extreme electromagnetic fields around black holes such as force-free fields. Recently he is switching from analytic to numeric simulations. He is mainly interested in simulating plasmas around compact objects like black holes and neutron stars using Particle-In-Cell simulations.
