AAS NOVA Spotlights Grad Student Lia Medeiros’ Paper

In a new article, AAS Nova has highlighted Steward Observatory’s Lia Medeiros, Feryal Ӧzel, Dimitrios Psaltis, and NOAO’s Tod Lauer for their paper, “Principal Component Analysis as a Tool for Characterizing Black Hole Images and Variability.”

Medeiros, a Steward Observatory graduate student who works closely with faculty member, Feryal Ӧzel, and is supported by the NSF PIRE Project, led the article’s efforts to characterize the structure and variability of simulated black hole images using principle component analysis.

The method has positive implications for real EHT observations and can help us “better understand the components of what we’re observing.” You can read the full article HERE.
